Privacy Policy

Opal ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Opal Private Browser mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

We built Opal as a privacy-focused browser. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not track the websites you visit for advertising purposes.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information stored only on your device

The following data is created while you use the App and is stored locally on your device only. We do not upload it to our servers or share it with anyone:

• Browsing history — the pages you visit within the App.
• Tabs and session state — your open tabs.
• App settings and preferences — such as your chosen language, ad-block setting, data saver, and cookie preferences.
• Ad-block statistics — counters for the number of ads and pop-ups blocked.

You can delete this data at any time from within the App (for example by clearing your history) or by clearing the App's storage in your device settings.

1.2 Information collected by third-party services

To keep the App free and to operate it, we use trusted third-party services. These services may collect certain information automatically:

• Advertising (Google AdMob). To serve ads, Google may collect data such as your device's advertising identifier, device information, IP address, and approximate location. In regions that require it (such as the EEA and UK), we show a consent form before serving personalized ads, and you may choose non-personalized ads.
• Analytics (Google Firebase Analytics). Used to understand how the App is used in aggregate (which features are opened, how often the App crashes) so we can improve it. This may include device identifiers, device model, operating system version, and general usage events.
• Remote configuration (Google Firebase Remote Config). Used to adjust App behavior remotely. It does not collect personal data.
• Subscriptions and payments (Google Play Billing). If you purchase the Premium (ad-free) subscription, the transaction is processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details.
• Attribution (Adjust). May be used to measure how the App is installed. This may include your device advertising identifier and install information. (This feature may not be active in all versions of the App.)

2. How We Use Information

• Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its browsing features.
• Display advertising to support the free version of the App.
• Process and manage Premium subscriptions.
• Understand usage and diagnose problems so we can improve the App.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3. Advertising and Your Choices

The free version of the App is supported by ads served through Google AdMob.

• Personalized vs. non-personalized ads. Where required by law, you will be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time.
• Ad-free Premium. If you subscribe to Opal Premium, ads are removed from the App.
• Advertising ID. You can reset or delete your advertising identifier at any time in your device settings, and opt out of ad personalization there.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with the third-party service providers listed in Section 1.2, solely so they can perform their functions (serving ads, analytics, payment processing, and attribution). We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.

5. Data Retention

Data stored locally on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the App. Data collected by third-party services is retained according to their respective retention policies.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information. However, no method of transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because most of your data stays on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly by clearing your data in the App or uninstalling it. For requests relating to data held by our third-party providers, please contact us below.

9. International Users

The third-party services we use may process and store data on servers located outside your country. By using the App you consent to such processing in accordance with this Policy.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
